Dopo la sanguinosa repressione dell’insurrezione di Verona (Pasque Veronesi, 17-25 aprile 1797) mentre i giacobini consumano le loro vendette, nel contado veronese e specialmente in Val d’Adige prosegue la guerriglia contro le truppe napoleoniche, almeno fino al gennaio del 1798, quando arriveranno le truppe imperiali a liberarli. Nei dintorni di Caprino Veronese bresciani, bergamaschi, veronesi e tirolesi, che trovavano rifugio nel vicino territorio austriaco, assistiti dal parroco e da un consigliere comunale, finanziano la guerriglia con i contributi volontari della popolazione, rilasciando a ciascuno ricevuta di quello che aveva dato, per restituirglielo a guerra finita. Gl’insorgenti assaltano i convogli francesi e liberano i loro compagni prigionieri, che dovevano essere condotti a Verona per essere fucilati.
After the bloody repression of the insurrection of Verona (Veronese Easters, 17-25 April 1797), while the Jacobins took revenge, it continued in the Veronese countryside, especially in the Val d’Adige, at least until January 1798, when the Caesarian troops arrived to free them.
